The only way to be absolutely certain your DVD can never be copied is to not make a DVD in the first place. As much as anyone would like to claim that a single method of copy protection is completely secure, unfortunately, it is just not possible. There will always be those people that find ways to defeat any protection in place. However, a solid form of copy protection can be successful in deterring up to 60% of unauthorized DVD copying and ripping done by "Stage One" offenders that are typically deterred by copy protection, as well as add a moderate resistance to the most dedicated of pirates.

 

Additionally, with the anti-rip technology, there is a slight variation on each disc that goes out, preventing or at least significantly delaying piracy. So, if a single disc is hacked, big deal ... the offender didn't necessarily find the secret to hack all of the discs. Publishing a disc with Rimage Video Protect on it is a far better solution than mass replication with traditional CSS encryption.

The first and foremost objective for any copy protection method is to maintain superior playback compatibility on the maximum number of DVD players and set-top boxes. The best way to achieve this objective is to utilize a passive protection approach, one that leaves the original media in-tact and instead encapsulates smart code on unused portions of the disc. The method that MST Productions utilizes does just this, resulting in nearly 99.61 playback compatibility.

The form of copy protection that MST Productions utilizes is a technology called Rimage Video Protect™, a breakthrough encryption method from Rimage Corporation. In order to keep the technology current and up-to-date, ensuring maximum security and protection, we have to license this technology on a "pay-per-disc" basis. Just like licensing fees and royalties are paid to Philips for the DVD itself, each disc we burn that is copy protected gets counted and we must pay a licensing fee. We have worked hard to build a pricing structure that is competitive and we think the added cost will be worth the added value to your project. Our system is completely integrated to our existing systems that we use for duplicating your DVDs. Since there is nothing changed with the original content of the disc, you can provide us with a DVD-R or DVD+R master like you do for traditional duplication projects.

 

If you are authoring your own custom DVD, you can also provide us with just the Video_TS folder on a hard drive and we can duplicate from that. If the size of your project is small enough, you can even request to upload your assets directly to our servers via FTP.

Adding the copy protection code to a DVD does mean that each disc takes slightlylonger to burn; however, we have designed our system to maximize bandwidth and resources so that we can still provide the same fast turn times that our customers expect from us.
